Genetically- Modified Foods and Ingredients Essay

Visiting a supermarket has become a usual experience of each one of us. We have to read all the labels that warn us against genetically-modified ingredients and its expiry date. I, try myself to calm down that epidemic services take control over dangerous products. Yet, I have my doubts in eating my favorite snack, French fries that is done in a fast food. The cumulative effect of genetically-modified foods is particularly dangerous for sensitive populations, including kids, elderly people and people who have indigestion people and even us, whose normal healthy living people. I have studies literature on genetically-modified ingredients, trying to be objective in my judgment. Genetically-modified ingredients advance the modern biology achievements. These products and ingredients strengthen the resistance to herbicides and improve nutritional food contents. Genetically-modified (GM) foods production lessens time-consuming than conventional breeding. Molecular Biologists have not discovered yet how harmful GM products and ingredients are but they claim that GM foods may be environmentally hazardous. Only allergy was recognized as negative effect of GM foods. We, cannot break out from the GM products, since two-thirds of genetically modified crops are corn, cotton, soybeans, potatoes even the fruits we eat. This is just a sign that we should be well inform on what is going in our world especially in our foods that can affect our living. We cannot escape from this advancement in our modern world but we, people, can prevent this to have real healthy living life style.

How Are 21st Century Business Organizations Built?

The importance of management enhancement among business facilities and organizations around the world is indeed a serious issue to consider when it comes to realizing the different impacts of IT [Information Technology] procedures is being discussed about. The growing developments that technology and communications have taken so far have been an essential part of the growing system of technological applications. Along with the technological advancements, the social living of humans also is further enhanced. Both economic and social lifestyles were advancing but there was no rest in incurring the best possible progress that the developers of technological systems wanted. With the introduction of computers to the society, the easier way of living and completing everyday tasks has become a trend for many industrial workers. However, as mentioned earlier, the development in the eyes of the ones who are in charge of the enhancement of the operating systems is never ending.Hence, although t here were already some great achievements in terms of the developed operating systems, things got better each time there are new innovations introduced. As for this paper, much of the advancement shall be focused upon the implementation of the . NET technologies on the existing operating systems at present. Information Technology started to boom and take over the business industries during the early 20th centuries. This development has highly alleviated the status of commerce in the society. This has also been the reason why many companies worldwide choose to invest so much on IT processes for their businesses. Mainly to ensure their company’s capability of remaining in existence, they tend to put so much attention to how their firm keeps up with the fast-paced changing world of technology. However, is this all that there is? This paper shall be a discussion on how IT really affects the business industry as to how useful it still is for the world of commerce. Facing the Issues of the Importance of Information TechnologyInvesting in a company’s Information Technology sector has long been a source of argument from the very beginning of time when IT was introduced to the business industry. Many owners of big company’s would of course like to have an edge against other business venture to be able to attain leadership in their own fields of commercial business. This is why these companies tent to invest so much along with the fast paced changing systems of technology. Indeed, they view information technology as one source of insurance for their company’s lengthened existence. However, is this claim really true?Especially when it comes to the efficiency and accuracy of information processing and data security that Information Technology promises to ensure each business company of? This is what Nicholas Carr argues with in his articles, â€Å"IT Doesn’t Matter† and â€Å"The end of corporate computing†. In these article s, Carr enlists the ways in which IT cannot sufficiently provide the companies with the competitive advantage it aims to have against other business firms by outlining several reasons on the said topic. In the paragraphs to follow, these reasons shall be discussed as well as to the Pros and Cons of Carr’s arguments. The Pros of Carr’s Arguments on Information Technology Nicholas Carr’s articles, which were mentioned earlier, mainly points out how the fast changing world of technology makes it hard for companies worldwide to consider IT as a measure of competitive advantage against others. This is because Information Technology programs could be easily copied, changed and re-distributed due to the advanced technology itself. In this way, no company could be considered at an edge when it comes to IT. However, the question is, how does IT really affect the business activities of a certain company? The act of generating information usually belongs to the management. H owever, through the integration of new technologies to this task, things could be done in a lot more easier way. The said information generated by the management through IT includes the flow of money in the company, the business operations and current market updates. These kinds of information are vital for a company’s growth. This is also the reason why IT is considered to be among the most important sector of a certain company. On the other hand, the real task of generating or using these informations still belongs to the management. This is why Nicholas Carr argues that the IT sector is for no use at all. Indeed, the labor force from the management is the key vital element in making the informations obtained by a company useful for the business. In addition, with the fast changing Information systems recreated through the new technologies, old IT systems may even be considered obsolete after a matter of time. In addition, since IT is already available for corruption or reco pying through the net, Carr considers it useless to actually invest on this sector of any company.Instead, he reiterates that the intellectual ability of the management is still the most important factor in making company informations work for the benefit of the business itself. The Cons of the Arguments of Carr on Information Technology The article â€Å"The End of Corporate Computing† mainly depicts the situation of information technology in today’s business industries. He then claims that because of the similarities and the common characteristics of each IT systems within every company, IT can never be considered as an edge to being highly competitive against others.Yes, this is true, but then saying that IT itself does not matter at all could be considered as an exaggeration of the matter. As said earlier, IT has alleviated the business industries so much. Today, the data of companies as well as their market could be viewed through the Internet making it possible t o attract more customers at that. In this way companies who are able to catch up with the latest IT systems available for their company gains an edge against those who cannot have even an access to the said IT systems.True, with the fast-paced life of people today, the idea of being left behind because of lack of necessary IT systems for the business may prove to be a fatal situation for a certain business venture. This then thus conclude that both the IT systems of a company along with the intellectual abilities of its management sector should work together to attain the aimed development for any growing business firm. However, there are still some business individuals who are not able to recognize the fact that too much of everything is also dangerous. As for example, McAfee’s â€Å"Do you have too much IT† pinpoints that the existence of too much computer or electronic drive systems in the business industries have also caused problems especially with regards to the s ecurity of different matters that are displayed by the company through the Internet. This is mainly because of the fact that there are a lot of people that are able to visit the Internet freely and are not bounded by any certain hindrances. Thus, making it possible for some computer experts to perform illegal theft activities, which could be incurred through the Internet applications provided too by the worldwide web.Certainly, there is a big reason why there are still many experts who are not amiable to making full use of IT as a generator for business transactions especially with regards to money matters. However, it should always be considered by the said experts that with ample control, security measures and other points of consideration that could be carried on through by the companies operating within the Internet systems, an expected good result could still be predicted in the future. Hence, this means that IT does matter, although there are some measures of concern that shou ld be considered during its operation.Living in a high tech society requires of so much advancement especially in the field of commerce. Being able to market ones products or services to a bigger number of customers might mean that a company must be able to obtain the most advanced technology there is. Indeed, taking advantage of what technology has to offer, such as Information Technology, is a vital part of a company’s growth in today’s internationalized industries. Remember though that it must also be always taken into account that these IT systems would never work without the efficiency and effort of human labor such as the management. The integration of these two sectors in a business firm would surely bring a company to its peak state. No, Information technology is not yet dead. In the business industry, it is still and will continuously be a part of any emerging company’s growth in the globalization of the business industries. The E-Business Strategies and their Growth in the Business Industries Globalization has long been opening a wide array of challenges to the business industries around the world. At all costs, many global corporations opted to continuously cope up with the challenges of the business systems offered through globalizing strategies. Then, just when the global companies have already adjusted to the needs of the global systems, another challenge opens up as the Internet systems enter the scenes of the business world. Today, one of the trends in the business marketing strategies is the invasion of the cyber industry. Hence, the systems of globalization have offered more and more challenges for business organizations. The competition among industries with regards to how fast and how vast their consumer relations are has grown ever tighter. In this regard, the necessary strategies to make a successful cyber business shall be discussed in this paper, which would be mainly based upon a major company, which is involved in co mputer manufacturing activities. Hence, through this, the essential factors making up a successful online business would be introduced and closely examined. Benefits of E-Business As mentioned earlier, the Internet has mostly invaded the entire human activities, and in this manner, even business transactions became a new approach of the Internet to invite surfers to appreciate the business services available through the cyber space. As an example, a common resource provided by the Internet is a worldwide system for sending and receiving electronic mail, known as E-mail. In fact, E-mail represents a large portion of all Internet traffic and is for many the only Internet resource they use. In this manner of transferring data, many business companies are able to transact with their consumers from other parts of the world simply by posting the details of their company through the net for international viewing. After which, the consumers who are interested in their products or services are able to have options of ordering for services and products offered by the said company and pay for the provisions through wire transfers and other bank to bank transactions. How does this benefit the company? In a vivid description, the company is able to advertise and reach a vast number of consumers around the globe, making it possible for them to accumulate more and more sales revenues from their Internet marketing strategies.Through the animated presentations, the company is also able to make a clear presentation of its missions and visions which makes its reputation more acceptable for the consumers as well. Aside form this; the company is able to ensure its consumers with fine service without actually having to personally deal with them. Thus, this paves way to a more effective consumer communication since all the necessary details they need to know about the company or the product they ought to have is available within a click of the finger. Thus, the company is able to give its consumers a fine service at their own convenience.Knowing this, since the manufacturing company named B&H Incorporated is a computer manufacturing company, it is indeed necessary for them to upgrade to becoming a click and mortar type of business organization. Many consumers needing computer paraphernalia and other products in connection to computers usually check the Internet for necessary information. This is the reason why B&H Incorporated should be able to innovate their business systems through the use of e-business strategies. Changes in Marketing Since the business approach is sure to change, the marketing strategies are also sure to take large adjustments. Thus, this means that additional training should be catered well by the company as they take the necessary steps in entering the e-business industries. As for example, the old advertising systems used by the company is based upon catalogue posts, newspaper announcements and television commercials. The new approach of m arketing in the e-business approach would be mainly based upon flash animations, computer effects and further more innovations applied through computer skills in making the company program, which would be used in the company’s Internet website, which would be created for its e-business transactions.Take for example the company of COCA COLA organizations. Marketing as we all know is the branch of a certain company or business responsible for advertising and promoting the products of the said venture. This branch of the business industry deals with many different factors both in and out of the community it is existing with, just to be able to come up with a certain formula or a decision on what type of marketing strategy is going to be used. Meaning, the main purpose of putting effort in making a good marketing strategy is to be able to convert possible prospect buyers to become frequent users of the company’s products.True, if a certain company is a producer of one kind of product, the marketing branch is treated as the core of this business as it is the branch that determines the sales, profit or loss of that certain company. Thus, it is just so important to be able to know about the surviving strategies of one company concerning that it operates both globally and domestically. How does one company manage to handle the different factors and difficulties of setting up a trend in a target community considering that that company doesn’t have it’s main branch within the area specified? How are they able to keep up with their selling activities amidst all the problems that arise and the changes that occur within a certain community every now and then? In this paper, the author has chosen the Coca Cola Company to be a sample company to be examined with regards to its global and domestic operations. Close observations on its marketing activities shall be researched upon and be given evaluation. This paper shall be divided in three parts mai nly the environmental, the technological and the social factors that affects marketing strategies of a certain business organization, namely, the Coca Cola Company. But first and foremost, it must be known how this company started. Coca Cola as the company claims, â€Å"exists to benefit and refresh everyone it touches†Ã¢â‚¬ ¦ It has been founded in 1886 and is now known as one of the world’s leading manufacturer, marketer, and distributor of non alcoholic beverages, concentrates and syrups. This company produces also around 400 different brands of such kinds of products. Their corporate head quarters are located in Atlanta and has local operations in over 200 countries. As it could be seen, it all began in a small scale business and grew to a world renowned company mostly popular to all ranges of ages all over the globe. How did they do it? They gave importance to the three major factors that could help boost the marketing strategies of a certain company. What is referr ed to as the environment by marketing? It could consist of the climate, the location and the people who are in one community, which a certain business industry targets to be its prospect market. How did the Coca Cola Company face this factor?First, as we all are aware of, the said company is known both over the places that are not so much developed, and especially the most developed lands. This means, each community has different demands when it comes to drinking different beverages. It also concerns how the prospect customers could buy the product in a frequent basis if the climate from every place vary every now and then. It only shows that it is very important for the Coca Cola Company to be able to convince the people to buy their products time and again. In this case, the cross selling or up selling is considered by the company. In some ways, some people from different countries could have a variety of choices of beverages they would rather drink depending on the climate their c ommunity experiences from time to time. It is very important that a company such as Coca Cola, be able to get along with the advancement of technology. As for example, the usage of Internet access, the television, media advertising, radios commercials and even on national and local broad sheets in a certain country. All these, and more are often used by the company of Coca Cola to be able to invite more and more customers world wide.As for example, In the late 1950’s, James Vicary claimed to have conducted a study in a New Jersey, U. S. A. , Movie Theater in which the words â€Å"Drink Coca-Cola† and â€Å"Eat Popcorn† were flashed on the screen during the movie. The messages appeared for only a fraction of a second, too briefly to make an impression on the conscious mind. Yet, according to Vicary, they resulted in an increase in the sale of Coca-Cola and popcorn. Yes, recent studies show how effective TV and Internet sources are when it comes to influencing spe cially the kids in buying several products such as soft drinks. These strategies are considered to be much effective to be used by producers. Mainly, the ideal aim of marketing is to give the people what they need and to provide them the things that they want. Obviously, the Coca Cola Company has proved to be able to meet this factor in marketing. In Japan for example, it has been reported that the Coca Cola company gained 60 percent of the soft-drink market in the said country by making its drink sweeter—just what the Japanese wanted. Thus, it is true that foreign companies that employ such marketing strategies have been immensely successful.Aside from the taste Coca Cola also provides their customers the necessary informations they need to know about the products so as to gain their customer’s trust and be able to retain their loyalty to the said products. Yes, indeed Coca Cola proves to be among the pioneers in using several effective marketing strategies in both glo bal and domestic operations and became immensely successful in implementing such strategies. What about the other companies in the industry? What could be learned from them with regards the establishment of the 21st century business organizations? The Success and Failures of dot. com Companies The dot. com dot. bomb issue has long been plaguing the Internet world as it has been open to investors and stockholders. What actually happened to this phenomenon? The companies, which were established as dot. com organizations failed to see the need of adjusting to the cyber systems as far as their employee skills are concerned. Certainly, even though there is an Internet assistance offered through the websites, there should still be some personnel assigned to meet the customer’s needs through live chats and other means of communication. This would mean that their employees should undergo extra training processes regarding this matter. The successful companies on the other hand such as Amazon. com provides fine service through support services from crews of the company available through the Internet at almost any time. Their transactions too were highly secured that made their consumers feel at ease as they take the option of dealing with the company through the net. The Differences between E-business and the Integrated OrganizationsCertainly, for e-business organizations, the costs may be much less since the only expense they have to pay would be the Internet services and the website fees. However, their inability to deal personally with their consumers hurt their organizations in a service based evaluation. On the other hand, the integrated organizations having a physical establishment along with a website established through the cyber space have bigger chances of catering to more consumers while catering to their needs at the best possible way there is. Expenses may be higher but the return for these companies sure are worth enough for risking.True, the globali zation of business systems has been a cause for advancements in the business systems created for both the business organizations and the consumers as well. The latest fad of entering the e-business has also helped in making the necessary changes in the business industry a worthwhile form of adjustment for profit and service oriented business companies. Conclusion With the introduction of the computer technology to the human society during the 19th Century, the works or the tasks of people have been further created with ease. With the implementation of computer systems within the existing systems of completion for human tasks, the jobs of people, which can be merged with technological arrangements, were enhanced to becoming easily completed. Today, 95% of the whole population of man all around the world utilizes the computer systems for their everyday application. Even ordinary appliances are now compiled with complex operating systems based upon computer arrangements to be able to me et the best possible performance that they could render the human society. (Tanenbaum, 2006, 15)Now, even more complex role is played by the application of operating systems in the daily dealings of people has been introduced. With the development of the communication systems such as the internet, learning from home, using top of the art facilities and technologies became possible for many students who cannot attend universities because of some unavoidable circumstances. Through the existence of the emerging technological innovation on communication and information transfer, everything became possible and available through the Internet. As of the present situation, there are still other innovations that have been affected by the developing Operating Systems. The world trade systems has become more easy for the traders since the Internet systems allow them to connect with others easily and effectively transact with their business partners abroad. (Tanenbaum, 2006, 19) This fact certai nly brings about the fact that managers of different business organizations should recognize the possibilities that put their responsibilities to the business at a certain height that requires them to adjust with the changes. These changes are considerable in line with the globalization procedures that are bound to increase the capability of business organizations to expand world wide thus giving the managers a larger scale of responsibilities that they need to face with in their profession. True, the challenge is serious, however, accomplishing victory on it would naturally bring forth progress in the world’s business industries and world economy. REFERENCES: Tim Cohn. (1998). Legal Professionals Report Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Legal Professionals Report - Assignment Example Nancy B. Heller’s education can be traced back to 1978, when she graduated from the Indiana University, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Forensic Studies. Ms. Heller’s stint with the legal corridors is longstanding, given that in 1999, she became a Registered Paralegal. This admission into the Registered Paralegal came about as a result of Heller having passed the Paralegal Advanced Competency Test, which is carried out under the aegis of the National Federation for Paralegal Associations. From 1999 to 2011, Ms. Heller served as an Adjutant Professor at the Capital University School of Law Paralegal Program as a lecturer of Civil Litigation, Law and Ethics Office Practice and Trial Preparation and Practice. Particularly, Ms. Heller specializes in areas such as access, summation, accurint, E-discovery and PACER. According to Kirkwood (2009), it is important to note that the prerequisites that qualify the position that Ms. Heller presently occupies are not limited to the achievements discussed above. Particularly, Ms. Heller has played immense roles in community and professional initiatives. Ms. Heller served as: the Respite caregiver for the Hospice of Columbus (1994-2001); coordinator of the Walk for justice, the Legal Aid Society, Columbus, (1993-1997); the March of Dimes for Walk-America Participant and Coordinator (1985-97); the Volunteer, Greater Columbus Arts Council (1984-97); and the Trustee, Alpha Epsilon Phi Foundation (1995-7), among others. Alongside these educational achievements and illustrious professional experience, Ms. Heller in 2010 won the prestigious Ohio Jefferson Award for Public service. The Court-Appointed Special Advocates for Franklin County (CASA) is the organ that had nominated Ms. Heller, following Heller’s advocacy for neglected and abused children, and for her vehement support of the terminally ill, while working with Zusman Community Hospice. Prior to this, Ms. Heller had been named as being among the top 15 paralegals in America, in Lessons from Leading Paralegal Experts, 2008. The foregoing shows clearly that not only is Heller’s paralegal record impeccable, but also a seasoned one, spanning from as far back as 1978. Heller was able to ascend to her current position by the virtue of being a member of the Registered Paralegal (a qualification she has held since 1999), and her educational merit and experience in the field of law. At the moment, Ms. Heller is serving: in the Editorial Advisory Panel for the Legal Assistant Today (from 1999); as the Respite caregiver of the Zusman Community Hospice (since 2004); and as the court-appointed Guardian Ad Litem for the Court-Appointed Special Advocates for Franklin County (since 1994). Heller also serves as a litigation paralegal in the Columbus offices of Sater, Vorys, Pease LLP and Seymour. To this effect, she handles class and complex litigation issues such as toxic tort, products liability, employment and commercial cases. This mea ns that the responsibilities that Heller discharges are immense, cross-organizational and multiple. Kirkwood (2009) adds that one of the incidents that served as Heller’s source of challenge occurred when Nancy B. Heller and the Vorys Legal Counsel attempted to preside over matters relating to the Cleveland’

Female Sexual Autobiography Personal Statement Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

Female Sexual Autobiography - Personal Statement Example It was very early that I discovered something unusual when I find young men and boys looking at me with deeper meaning in their eyes. I started feeling strange and uncomfortable by someone's intense gaze or meaningful smile while I was entering my teenage. Early teenage interaction with opposite sex assured me of some fiery attraction and bond. Later, Biology class lessons and discussions; television programs; magazines with exposing pictures; books and literature, and socialization led me discover the real meaning and process of sex. At that time, I felt excited but feared by the consequences of doing it in the form of pregnancy. I was clueless about where â€Å"babies come from† until six. One day I heard some kids talking about it in school cafeteria. In utter disbelief, I shared this newly got but awkward information with some of my street friends, few of them came up with similar stories. With more confused than ever ideas in my head, I came back home and talked to my mother about it; she told me that it’s true. I was quite shocked; it was certainly true because my mother was the ultimate source of information. I felt that it is a gross idea and babies can come out by mouth instead, funny idea I know, but that was something popped like popcorn in my mind when I was settling with this phenomenon. I thought but how the kid goes in, an immediate answer was, the way it comes out, but I couldn't give much thought to the later part. I also imagined myself coming out of my mom’s bottom; it seems funny now but was a terrible thought then. Post this information, I became more curious than ever to such information aired on television, magazines, and books. I was aware of the fact that girls and boys are different from my early childhood. I started noticing the differences between male and female body around 7-8 years of age. Whenever I saw a new born without clothes, I naturally observed that boys are different from girls. I felt that little girls have more beautiful body than little boys but boyish thing was interesting for sure. My biology class proved to be the solid fact-checking machine as I could not only read but question whenever I felt confused. After studying the structures and functioning of male and female organs, I was very thrilled. My own changing body and new experiences, such as, periods made me felt like I am transforming into women, ready for a sensual life full of surprises ahead. While I learned about the connection between male and female, I was not able to appreciate my own body. I was interested in what is in outside world. Masturbating was somethi ng that came to be naturally and made me realize the beauty and feelings within. Though, I started doing it around the age of 8 or 9 but I was not aware of the fact that I was doing it. I have no clue what it is and why I enjoy touching myself. However, it was not that real masturbating as I used to stick my finger there and move slowly for feeling the sensation or releasing the itch caused by some hard cloth or jeans. I learnt about the â€Å"golden moment† (as I refer to orgasm) in my teenage from some dirty magazines where people shared their experiences of

Illegal immigration and Middle East profiling Essay

Illegal immigration and Middle East profiling - Essay Example Turning to positions various political philosophers would have taken on these two global phenomena, we need to closely scrutinize their thoughts on citizenship, liberties, freedom, and human rights. Focusing on Aristotle, his idea of citizenship is equated with virtue. That there is more to citizenship than living in a particular place or sharing in economic activity or ruling under the same laws. He contends that it is a great privilege to be a citizen and had a set of duties. He has certain freedoms that non-citizens do not have and obligations like political participation and military service. In his definition and subsequent argument, he refers to illegal migrants as the vulgar, that is, those who are incapable of citizenship, which leads to virtue. More importantly, those migrants are actually migrating in search of work or rather to become laborers. According to Aristotelian thinking, it is impossible to pursue virtue when one is a laborer. Laborers exist like slaves for the be nefit of male free citizens now that citizens are similar in stock and free. (Cohen and Fermon 114). This would be taken to mean that he does not advocate for non- citizens mixing with citizens, and in any case, therefore, the migrants who are laborers will always remain inferior to citizens and would not enjoy equal rights and liberties. In his argument of a good citizen, he contends whether the virtue of the good man and the excellent citizen is to be regarded as the same or as not the same. That a good man is the one who lives in accordance with virtue and finds happiness in doing so. The Middle East profiling is as a result of evil deeds that have informed such scrutiny. His position would then be that a virtuous person should be protected from the evil one and thus my posit is that, he would support such profiling, but as is typical in his ideas, in moderation. Saint Augustine of the city of god fame is on the worldview that we have a sinful nature and only by the grace of God that we can be saved. His philosophy is closely intertwined with the bible and God as the focal point. That we must obey governments to restrain us from being sinful (Cohen and Fermon 141).He believes in giving everyman his due. From this discussion therefore, illegal migration is sinful and like all other sins, evil. In the case of Middle East profiling, it is also sinful because God would not allow it, as we should all remain co-equals and colleagues. Rawls philosophy is anchored on reasonable pluralism. That is, he is more accommodating to divergence. He contends that, stability of society is organized around justice and he believes in respect for human rights. He postulates that, societies and countries lacking the conditions necessary for a decent or just regime should be assisted to realize it. By assistance, he does not recommend intervention, rather, to necessitate that country to achieve a just regime. These principles, he posits, should govern one nation in relation with t he other. His position in regards to illegal migration would then be that they should be accommodated, and their countries be assisted to achieve conditions that would enable citizens to be comfortable in a just regime which would restore peace and get into the path of economic progress. The same can be said on

Geographic Information System on a civil engineering Research Paper

Geographic Information System on a civil engineering - Research Paper Example Key to this research is the various information software used in the analysis and presentation of civil engineering works. Introduction The GIS (geographic information system) is a modern scientific system and software capable of acquiring or capturing, recording, integrating and present in more clearly and understandable format for all geographic data. The system will analyze information such as landscape, terrain and hydrology and eventually display the required output whether in 3-D or maps to be used in engineering purposes. Since GIS is jurisdictional, they can be specifically designed to analyze and present civil engineering data and therefore aid in civil engineering design. Such application especially witnessed in GIS is restrictive and would therefore be a civil engineers very important tool. Any application information system that has the ability to capture, integrate, analyze and display in such formats that can be understood is called GIS (Chang 2008). In civil engineerin g GIS can be taken to use such software as CAD and PROKON which analyze and present civil engineering data. PROKON can be adequately used to carry out structural analysis and present the results in more practical engineering terms. The info is then used for the practical design to ensure completion of the project. Others include Nisa Design Studio, Fastrack, Structural BIM, Vision Civil and S-Frame (Fu & Sun. 2010). Literature review Application of GIS can be traced back to the 1832 use of spatial analysis in what has recently become known as the field of epidemiology. This was done by the Geographer Charles Picquet who attempted to represent the whole city of Paris, showing all its districts, using colour variations or gradient. Further developments could include the cholera representation in London by John Snow where points were used to indicate specific cases in specific areas in regard to geographic location and proximity. The Snow representation added value to the previously ex isting ideas of topography as the element of analysis of clusters was incorporated in addition to the aspect of representation or depiction that was earlier known. This has been the basis of GIS applications where cartographic methods are used to analyze geographically dependent elements (Chang 2008). With advancement in technology and by the 20th century, there was the development of photozincography where maps could now be split into layers to represent vegetation, water and similar phenomena. Though tedious, the aspect of separate layers made it more interesting and accurate as confusion was easily avoided by the draughtsman working on the maps. Colour printing improved this further where printing was done and this enhanced quality output of the maps as well as proper storage. This was the basis of the contemporary GIS concept (Chang 2008). The Canadian GIS (CGIS) brought with it more advantages as opposed to the previous technique of computer mapping. Through CGIS, it was possib le to do overlays, measurement and scanning, a feature not previously available through computer mapping. Since the system supported the national coordinate system which covered the whole continent and also stored locational information as supporting files, the system was more effective in analyzing geographic data for it was mainly designed. The result of the Dr. Tomlinson’s contribution is the basis of the modern GIS and is thus conveniently referred to as

Failures of DRM and Digital content copyright Essay

Failures of DRM and Digital content copyright - Essay Example Additionally, according to Hombal & Prasad (2012, p. 237), the media must keep changing from one data format to another. Producers of digital materials ought to generate device-specific and product-specific licenses, which are only issued to the client after delivery, for use in specific devices. This implies that any reproduced copies only operate in the originally licensed device and the licensed product. Producers ought to collaborate with network experts such that if any attempt to reproduce digital materials in a device is sensed from any location. This requires a great deal of partnership, involving the hardware manufacturers who should install the electronic tracking units in the hardware devices. The devices can be configured to send information to central location for monitoring copyright reproduction. The impacts of motivation on works and staff, which encourage employees Dissertation

The impacts of motivation on works and staff, which encourage employees to work in Saudi private sector - Dissertation Example SABIC controls over 10% of the international petrochemical market (30). It has entered into joint ventures and partnerships with foreign organizations like Shell, ExxonMobil and numerous other American, European and Asian companies (Cordesman, 2006). SABIC is a true reflection of the intention of the government of Saudi Arabia to involve private sector investment and participoation in the growth and development of the nation. As such, 70% of SABIC is owned by the government while the remaining 30% distributed among private owners (SABIC, 2011). The government further plans to divest the various company holdings and accelerate the privatization process. In the light of the Saudi Arabia’s policy to encourage Saudization or to ensure that the private sector organizations employ a substantial number of local employees (), it is essential to study the factors that help in attracting recruitment and which keep the local employees motivated and loyal to the company. While the Saudiza tion program was initiated as early as 2006, with the objective of increasing the private sector local workforce to 30%, the current statistics reveal that the actual fraction of local employees in private sector is less than 10%. ... mean that there is a low level of motivation among the local employees either to get selected in the private sector, or to work in such an organization. This is very little research undertaken within the private sector to understand why the sector lacks in local participation, or what makes it attractive to the expatriates and not the local workforce alone Al-Eisa, Furayyan, & Alhmeoud, 2009). However, this is a major issue that the government of Saudi Arabia is facing, and hence there is a need to study the problem intricately so as to S SABIC provides a dynamic environment where the changes that facilitate privatization are visible as can be seen in the recent changes to its human resource policies and packages. The organization employes a vast majority of both local and foreign workers and has been tasked with keeping the workforce trained and qualified as well as motivated to work. A research into the policies, practices and Human resource strategies in SABIC are expected to prov ide insights about how organizations in Saudi Arabia, especially, the private oraganizations, can motivate and retain their employees. Research Objectives In the light of the above background, the following research objectives are found useful for the current research: -To examine the factors that affect employees and staff motivation in Saudi Arabian firms - To define the role of motivation in achieving job satisfaction in Saudi Arabian petrochemical organizations. -To find out whether employee motivation is related to higher performance and low employee turnover in the context of Saudi Arabia Research Methods The research is conducted using both primary and secondary methods. The secondary method consists of an exhaustive literature survey and review where topics like employee motivation

Stalins Leadership in World War II Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

Stalins Leadership in World War II - Essay Example The second half of the 1930s saw the continuous campaign launched by Stalin to eliminate all those whom had - or at least were suspected to have - reservations about the political regime. The campaign that would become known as the Great Purge touched off immediately assassination of Sergey Kirov, a highly popular member of the Communist Party. Stalin responded to the assassination with a series of fierce actions. Mere distrust of Stalin or his confidants or anonymous information was used to send the suspect to the forced-labor camps or execute. The Soviet political militia, also known as NKVD, was given practically unrestricted powers, and during only two years from 1937 to 1938, the NKVD led by Nikolay Yezhov executed approximately 1 million of Soviet citizens with another 2 million were sent to the camps and eventually died (Ellman 2002). Several trumped-up trials that took place between 1936 and 1938 led to elimination of thousands of once prominent, influential and highly experienced leaders. The list of victims included such outstanding figures as Zinovyev, Bukharin, and Rykov whom were executed on concocted charges of conspiring with Germany and Japan. Another process held in 1937 resulted in almost entire elimination of the military's top-ranking commanders such as Marshal Tukhachevsky: according to the estimates approximately 50 percent of the senior officers had been dismissed (partially executed, partially sent to the camps) before the beginning of the Second World War (Conquest 1990). Evidently, such actions of Stalin who killed or sent to the camps the most experienced and talented managers could hardly be addressed as prudent in the face of inevitable war with Germany. Although Stalin's awareness of the inevitability of the war is subject for intensive debates (Rapoport & Alexeev 1985), it is difficult to imagine that a politician of Stalin's rank and experience could fail to notice the apparent tendency. Even the possibility that Stalin could make the mistake assessing the beginning of war hardly justified such devastating clean-up among the militaries, officials, and political elite of the Soviet Union. Furthermore, a series of conflicts initiated by Stalin in 1939 (Finland) and 1940 (Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, and Romania) clearly demonstrated that the Soviets were confidents of their military power. Ironically, what might be and probably had to be perceived as imprudence by the absolute majority of Stalin's contemporaries only adds validity to the claims of those whom give credence to his personal leadership during the World War praising Stalin as the leader and tactician of the highest order. The fact is that in absence of other leaders of note whom had been dismissed, imprisoned or executed during the Great Purge Stalin was forced to make decisions almost solely on his own: even those innumerous specialists whom successfully made it through the terror of 1937-1938 had the illustrative example of what Stalin did to
